naturalistic garden path / clinton hill, brooklyn
Now a lush, wooded walking path, this narrow L-shaped entrance to a boutique advertising agency was once a bare, exposed sloping lawn. Our shared vision with the client was to reimagine this small space as a wild, naturalistic plantscape where visitors ‘get lost’ in nature before arriving at the studio. The layered, wild aesthetic of the plantings and rough stone textures contrasts the cool minimalism of the modern interiors. This rewilding project incorporates many north american native flowering shrubs and perennials with the addition of more traditional garden staples like laurel and privet to provide privacy while camellia and hydrangea add large, colorful blooms. Fiddle heads popping up and shrub Cherry blossoms in spring, sweetly scented native Azalea and Clethra blossoms in summer, sweet Blueberries and Beach plum and the firey colors of Sumac and Boston Ivy in fall give inspiration all year round.
